  5. This file provides information for Shareware Distributors and Disk Vendors
  6. who wish to distribute the WinZip 5.5 package, including an extract from
  7. the license agreement and suggested program descriptions and keywords.

  13. The following paragraph is an extract from the license agreement
  14. regarding the distribution of the Shareware version of WinZip:

  16.     You are specifically prohibited from charging, or requesting
  17.     donations, for any such copies, however made; and from distributing
  18.     the software and/or documentation with other products (commercial or
  19.     otherwise) without prior written permission, with one exception:
  20. --> Disk Vendors approved by the Association of Shareware Professionals
  21. --> are permitted to redistribute WinZip, subject to the conditions in
  22. --> this license, without specific written permission.

  35. WinZip brings the convenience of Windows to the use of ZIP files.
  36. Includes PKZIP-compatible built-in zip and unzip, so PKZIP is not needed
  37. for basic archive operations.

  39. New in version 5.6 is built-in support for popular Internet file
  40. formats:  TAR, gzip, and Unix compress.  Version 5.5 added the ability
  41. to install, try, and UNINSTALL software distributed in ZIP files.  This
  42. feature runs the install program in a ZIP, gives you a chance to try the
  43. program, and OPTIONALLY deletes any new files, icons, program groups,
  44. and restores any altered INI files.

  46. WinZip includes a powerful yet intuitive point-and-click drag-and-drop
  47. interface for viewing, running, extracting, adding, deleting, and
  48. testing files in ZIP, LZH, and ARC files, including self extracting
  49. archives.  Optional virus scanning support is included.

  53. Requirements:  Windows 3.1 or later.  No other programs are are required
  54.                for basic ZIP operations.  Optional features require
  55.                external programs, including the shareware PKZIP/PKUNZIP
  56.                product from PKWARE, Inc. or ARJ from Robert Jung or
  57.                LHA.EXE from Haruyasu Yoshizaki.  WinZip interfaces to
  58.                several programs to access ARC files and optionally runs
  59.                most virus scanning utilities, including Windows-based
  60.                virus scanners.
